Reading Assistant is an internet programme that uses speech recognition technology to strengthen reading fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. It is the only online reading software that “listens” to students as they read out loud, intervenes when the student needs help, and automatically evaluates students’ oral reading.
We offer Reading Assistant to primary and secondary age children on a case by case basis, but generally find that our clients do best when they use Reading Assistant after they have finished Fast ForWord Language or Fast ForWord Literacy. Using Reading Assistant allows us to see exactly what your child is reading and for them to experience what fluency is like, fluency is key to comprehension. It is research validated both as a stand-alone training and after Fast ForWord.

Children wear a headset and microphone and read text out loud from a computer screen. The software helps and corrects the reader in real time. It acts as a patient, non-judgmental listener for struggling, self-conscious readers and provides the much needed reading practice that leads them to enjoy the full benefits of reading.
- The content of the passages used is suitable for children from Year 1 through to Year 13 and has a good selection of both fiction and non-fiction.
- More than 300 levelled reading selections across genres including fiction, poetry, science, history and biography. Texts are aligned to the American core educational standards.
- The range of reading levels allows us to customise the programme for your child and adjust the reading difficulty whilst keeping the content appropriate as their skills improve.
